CV Sensitive Cream Deodorant Fresh Mint
About: Made with soothing and moisturizing ingredients that CV calls their "sensitive skin" formula because they have replaced the baking soda with magnesium hydroxide. This is suitable for people who have experienced a sensitivity to natural deodorants that contain baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). Magnesium hydroxide is used in a natural deodorant for the same reason as baking soda, it alters the pH of the skin to make it more alkaline. By neutralizing the acid in sweat, the underarm environment becomes less friendly to odor-causing bacteria thus preventing body odor from forming. If magnesium hydroxide also increases the pH of underarm skin, why does it usually cause less irritation than baking soda? Magnesium hydroxide is less water-soluble which means it takes longer to fully dissolve in the sweat. Think of it as a “slow-release” antibacterial which allows the armpit a bit more time to adjust to the increase in pH. Magnesium Hydroxide is also effective at absorbing all types of moisture, including sweat, which makes it useful for keeping underarms dry. Tapioca flour is a fine, super-absorbent powder that helps pull sweat away from the skin. It works to reduce perspiration and odor due to the moisture-absorbing properties. Tapioca offers soothing relief from underarm itchiness caused by irritation. Virgin Coconut Oil is an easily penetrating, nourishing, moisturizing oil. Unlike fractionated coconut oil, unrefined coconut oil contains fatty acids which are known for their antibacterial properties. A coconut oil based deodorant helps soothe skin and helps reduce bacteria. Unrefined Shea Butter, rich in nourishing fatty acids, is a great emollient that soothes, moisturizes, softens, and helps ease irritated skin conditions. The Fresh Mint blend of organic essential oils are known for their antibacterial properties and provides an invigorating scent with complex minty notes.

Although all ingredients (except the magnesium hydroxide) are certified organic, these deodorants cannot be labeled organic due to the magnesium hydroxide which apparently is not used in agriculture or food other than to help cows with stomach issues.

Tips: This is sensitive to temperature changes. Never leave in a hot vehicle- it will melt. Even sitting in a steamy warm bathroom will melt it a bit. If this happens, put the product in your fridge for a few hours so it thickens back up. If your bathroom (or vehicle) is cold, the deodorant will harden a bit. If this happens scoop out a bit and warm between your fingertips before applying. Speaking of applying, a little goes a long way! You may be able to get by with a pea size amount. Adjust amount depending on your experience with it!
